Dave Einhorn
Soccer has always been an important part of my life. The game has shaped me as it shapes many of us from players to coaches to fans. Everything from watching my very first World Cup in 2010 to becoming a commentator, a board member, and a season ticket holder, has allowed me to express my passion for soccer. I’m excited to collaborate with like minded people through South Bronx United’s Power of 11 Campaign.
There is perhaps no greater expression of my passion for soccer than my work at South Bronx United. I have the opportunity to work as their Middle School Program Manager. My role is to help students from grades 5 through 8 in their academics, social emotional needs, and soccer skills. On the surface this may sound like homework help, test prep, and studying for exams, and it is, but beneath that are the things that schools can’t always address: assisting middle schoolers in placing into a good high school, project-based learning on topics that are fun and stress free, and empowering students through positive youth development to share power and achieve their goals. I know that everything I do in the classroom helps translate to success on the pitch.
That’s what makes South Bronx United such an incredible organization. Our work in this community is unparalleled. Whether it’s helping families with immigration status, our work-force development program that helps alumni build their skills, or our recreational programs that get kids excited about soccer at a young age. The pride synonymous with soccer fans can be found here in the South Bronx, as we all cheer on our student athletes from grade promotion to graduation, and all victories big and small in between. We, as a team, a community, and an organization, pride ourselves on doing everything we can to support the people we serve.
And I invite you to join us! By donating eleven dollars, symbolically for each of the eleven players on a soccer pitch, you too can make a difference. Every dollar goes towards a student’s dreams of going to college, playing soccer at the highest level, and one day, allowing them to raise this same community the way it has raised them.
