South Bronx United (SBU) is a nonprofit youth development organization with a mission of using soccer as a tool to uplift youth and families in the South Bronx. More than 1,900 young people, beginning at age two through young adults navigating college and careers, will participate in SBU programs this year in the classroom, on the soccer field, and throughout the community.
Founded in 2009, SBU has grown into an organization that provides far more than athletic programming. Its programs combine academic enrichment, college preparation, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness initiatives, immigration legal services, and other critical youth and family supports alongside soccer. The organization’s core program, the SBU Academy, has achieved a 100% high school graduation rate and a 94% college matriculation rate, with graduates attending college at rates significantly higher than their peers. In recent years, SBU has also expanded its Workforce Development Program, helping participants build job skills and explore career pathways through fellowships in coaching, tutoring, and community based work experiences.
This summer is especially exciting for our community. SBU girls and boys will walk out with national team players at every FIFA World Cup match at MetLife Stadium. A select group of SBU youth leaders will also represent the organization at Festival ’26 in Boston, and SBU will host the Bronx Block Party World Cup Festival for the USA vs. Australia match on Friday, June 19th. Anyone who donates at least $100 to my campaign will receive VIP access to the festival.
As the College Access Manager at South Bronx United, I have the privilege of working directly with our students as they navigate the college process, financial aid, scholarships, and planning for their futures. Every day, I see the impact this organization has on young people both on and off the field. I have celebrated college acceptances, helped students overcome barriers that once felt impossible, and watched our youth grow into confident leaders within their schools and communities. The relationships built here are genuine and lasting, and being part of those journeys has made my connection to SBU deeply personal.
What makes SBU so meaningful to me is that it is never just about soccer. It is about creating opportunity, stability, belonging, and hope for young people and families who deserve every chance to succeed. The #PowerOf11 Campaign is important because it directly supports programs that change lives every single day, from academic support and college access to mentorship, workforce development, and community engagement. I am incredibly proud to serve as a Team Captain for this campaign and to support an organization that continually shows up for the South Bronx community. I hope you will consider making a donation to help me reach my goal. I truly appreciate support in any amount, and together we can continue making a difference.
