South Bronx United (SBU) is sports-based youth development organization using soccer to improve education and health outcomes in the South Bronx, NY. Founded in 2009, SBU serves more than 1,700 young people annually combining athletics with academic enrichment, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness programs, immigration legal services, and other family and youth supports.
The SBU Academy, the organization's highest-touch program, provides a comprehensive pathway from middle school and high school to college and careers for over 200 immigrant, first-generation, and at-risk youth. SBU is continuing to grow its impact in the community by increasing academic and athletic opportunities and creating a safe space for youth via the
SBU Clubhouse. In January 2024, SBU officially opened the doors to its
Clubhouse Café, the cornerstone of a robust new workforce development program.
Since 2012, 100% of SBU Academy seniors graduated high school and 95% matriculated in college. In 2020 SBU accepted the Laureus Sport for Good Award in Berlin, Germany. SBU was honored by the U.S. Soccer Foundation as the 2018 Urban Soccer Symposium Impact Award recipient.
