The work of South Bronx United (SBU) has not stopped with the COVID pandemic - it has become that much more important.

SBU continues to provide at-home training, remote educational support, food resources, legal services, and employment support. SBU remains an organization dedicated to helping its student-athletes excel on and off the field through childhood and post-college. It works to create meaningful and sustainable change in the community by providing opportunities for young men and women who are the most vulnerable, yet at the same time, incredibly talented, passionate and resilient.

We are at a pivotal crossroad within history, as COVID-19 has decimated both the health and economic livelihood of communities filled with essential workers and people of color. Furthermore, the tragic murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery have ignited a nation-wide conversation on police brutality, social justice and systemic racism.

While there are many organizations you could (and should) support, I ask that you also please consider South Bronx United.

Join me in #PowerOf11 Campaign and together, we can stand united!

As many of you know, a good friend and former colleague of mine introduced me to this organization, as he spent most Saturday mornings over the past 5 years coaching U-10 recreational soccer for South Bronx United.

South Bronx United is a nonprofit youth development organization with a mission of using soccer as a tool for social change. More than 1,300 young people, beginning at age four and all the way through college, will have participated in programs this year on the soccer field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Founded in 2009 to address a lack in youth athletic programs in the South Bronx, the organization's programs have grown to combine soccer with academic enrichment, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness programs, immigration legal services, and other family and youth supports. The SBU Academy has a 100% high school graduation rate and 94% college matriculation rate. College-readiness rates of graduates are three-times the rate of their peers.  In 2020, SBU faces new challenges but remains steadfast in its mission to provide opportunity and support for its young people.
