South Bronx United (SBU) is a nonprofit youth development organization with a mission of using soccer as a tool for social change. More than 1,300 young people, beginning at age four and all the way through college, will have participated in programs this year on the soccer field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Founded in 2009 to address a lack in youth athletic programs in the South Bronx, the organization's programs have grown to combine soccer with academic enrichment, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness programs, immigration legal services, and other family and youth supports. The SBU Academy has a 100% high school graduation rate and 94% college matriculation rate. College-readiness rates of graduates are three-times the rate of their peers.  In 2020, SBU faces new challenges but remains steadfast in its mission to provide opportunity and support for its young people.

This cause is very dear to me, and I appreciate support in all amounts! Together we can make a difference!

SBU has made investments in providing special experiences for girls. Over the last year, SBU girls have had the opportunity to: - have an intimate group discussion with Rose Lavelle through the Women's Sports Foundation - visit Lyon, France to see the Women's World Cup final match and participate in discussions around gender equality with other youth from around the world at Festival19 - plan the youth-led Football for Equality initiative to specifically engage other girls in sport and promote gender equality - be the youngest team to play in the Global Goals World Cup representing Goal 5: Gender Equality - and attend team trips upstate or out-of-state to visit colleges, participate in tournaments, and bond with mentors. Here's a video of our weekly Girls' Discussion Group with the author of Soccer Sisters. https://youtu.be/uo7cvCRCx3w
