South Bronx United (SBU) is a nonprofit youth development organization using soccer as a tool for social change. More than 1,300 young people, beginning at age four and all the way through college, will have participated in programs this year on the soccer field, in the classroom, and in the community.
Founded in 2009 to address a lack in youth athletic programs in the South Bronx, programs have grown to combine soccer with academic enrichment, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness programs, immigration legal services, and other family and youth supports.
I am proud to stand by SBUas a board member. SBU works in one of the hardest hit communities: · 1,300 youth served each year ages 4-19 · 100% high school graduation rate and · 94% college matriculation rate through its SBU Academy · College-readiness rate more than three times the rate of its district · 6x the college graduation rate compared to their peers (over 6years) · 33 young people are now legal permanent residents thanks to SBU’s help
In 2020, SBU faces new challenges but remains steadfast in its mission to provide opportunity and support for its young people. This cause is very dear to me, and I appreciate support in all amounts! Together we can make a difference!
