South Bronx United (SBU) is a nonprofit youth development organization that uses soccer as a vehicle for social change. #PowerOf11 is SBU’s campaign to raise $111,000 in 11 days (June 1-11) to help level the playing field. A mere $11 donation is enough. Please read on, watch the launch video below, and thank you very much to those who wish to donate - a little really goes a long way at SBU.
The South Bronx has the highest poverty rate of any Congressional District in the US, a 90+% Black and Hispanic/Latino population, and some of the lowest education and health outcomes within the state of New York. This year through SBU, 1300 youths aged 4-18 participated in programs combining athletics with academic enrichment, college prep, leadership development, health and wellness and immigration services. In February 2020, SBU received the 'Laureas Sport for Good Award' in recognition of its impact.
The Bronx is now the borough hardest hit by COVID-19, experiencing the highest hospitalization and fatality rates in New York. SBU has continued to deliver crucial support to the community throughout this period, delivering laptops to children, giving out food delivery credit and emergency college scholarships, and continuing to provide their services virtually to the families of the South Bronx who have been ravaged by the pandemic.
My part in this inspiring organization has been mentoring youths through their college application process within the academic program, SBU Academy. 94% of SBU Academy students matriculate college and their college-readiness test scores are three-times those of their peers.
This year more than ever, SBU needs our financial support to remain steadfast in its mission to close the education and opportunity gap.

Finally, SBU stands united for justice against 400 years of systemic racism and oppression in the US, stands united with those who protest peacefully and stands united for change.
