In 2016, I started volunteering with South Bronx United as a college-prep mentor and tutor. The incredible students I met have overcome so much and have gone on to attend colleges across the region, many have been the first in their families to do so. As a volunteer I got to know the organization as one that truly supports the whole child. SBU's work does not end with soccer programs and afterschool tutoring. Programs and services include social-emotional support and counseling, immigration legal help, Know Your Rights workshops, social service referrals, college visits, team camping trips, and everything in between.
I have never met a more dedicated and passionate group of people - staff, volunteers, coaches, and leadership - who go above and beyond to meet the needs of participants and families they serve. This sense of unwavering support is what made me want to join the staff of SBU in 2018 as the organization's first full-time Development Manager. For me, and for many of my colleagues, this is more than just a job - it's a deep, impassioned, belief in the abilities of the young people we work with, both on and off the soccer field.

About SBU: South Bronx United (SBU) is a nonprofit youth development organization with a mission of using soccer as a tool for social change. More than 1,300 young people, beginning at age four and all the way through college, will have participated in programs this year on the soccer field, in the classroom, and in the community.
Founded in 2009 to address a lack in youth athletic programs in the South Bronx, the organization's programs have grown to combine soccer with academic enrichment, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness programs, immigration legal services, and other family and youth supports. The SBU Academy has a 100% high school graduation rate and 94% college matriculation rate. College-readiness rates of graduates are three-times the rate of their peers. In 2020, SBU faces new challenges but remains steadfast in its mission to provide opportunity and support for its young people.
This cause is very dear to me, and I appreciate support in all amounts! Together we can make a difference!
