After 11 years galavanting around every corner of NYC, I’m taking on the ultimate challenge: running all 5 boroughs in one go at the NYC Marathon! And I’m doing it to support South Bronx United (SBU), an incredible organization using soccer to change young lives.
I got to know SBU while working on a social impact initiative for Gotham FC, NY/NJ’s women’s soccer team. Each year, over 1,400 young people participate in SBU programs. They don’t just play soccer; they get academic support, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness programs, and immigration legal services. The results are phenomenal: the SBU Academy boasts a 100% high school graduation rate and a 94% college matriculation rate. These kids are THREE TIMES more likely to be college-ready than their peers.
Running the NYC Marathon is a dream for me. Many of you know I ran the Boston Marathon in 2013 but had to stop at mile 26 due to the bombing. I am SO READY to crush those last .2 miles in the city I love, representing an organization I truly believe in.
I’ve committed to raising $3,000 for SBU. It would mean the world to me if you’d consider pitching in: $3, $30, $300... Just keep adding zeroes until it feels right :)
I hope to see you on November 3 in NYC! It’s going to be a blast.
