Hi! My name is Bailey and I have volunteered with SBU for the past two years because I believe that soccer creates social good. I've witnessed so much joy and growth in my players throughout the last two years due to the whole-child curriculum SBU facilitates. It's an honor to run the marathon for an organization I care about so much!
I coach a Girls U14 team, an age I chose because 14 is the average age girls drop out of sport - and that's something I'm working to combat. I also coach a U5 team, where we focus on having fun and trying our best. I am also a mentor to SBU alumni. This organization has created strong community for me and countless others. Thank you for even considering contributing to my campaign!
More about SBU: South Bronx United (SBU) is a nonprofit youth development organization with a mission of using soccer as a tool for social change. More than 1,400 young people, beginning at age four and all the way through college, will have participated in programs this year on the soccer field, in the classroom, and in the community.
Founded in 2009 to address a lack in youth athletic programs in the South Bronx, the organization's programs have grown to combine soccer with academic enrichment, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness programs, immigration legal services, and other family and youth supports. The SBU Academy has a 100% high school graduation rate and 94% college matriculation rate. College-readiness rates of graduates are three-times the rate of their peers.
